Wednesday Peer Support Group Cancelled

The Wednesday night peer support group has been cancelled until further notice. We are working to find a facilitator for the group at this time. You can join us for peer support on Monday once a month. View our Calendar for the schedule here.

Wheelies Roller Skating RESCHEDULED

Wheelies Roller Rink made an error and double booked two private parties for Saturday, January 21st. Because the other group left a cash deposit (we left a cheque deposit), and because they have no record of which booking was made first, the other group has been given the use of the rink for that date and time. Wheelies did apologize and offered us a significant discount on an alternate date, which we have accepted. The new reduced cost is $20/family and the new date is:

As was our original plan, please bring a favourite snack to share, and beverages for your own use can either be brought or purchased at the rink. Asperger Manitoba Inc. are looking for individuals to start and facilitate various support groups in Winnipeg and other locations in Manitoba.

Peer support groups for adults, women, post-secondary students or teens with Asperger Syndrome
Dating or married to an someone with Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Caregivers of teens support group
Caregivers of adults, teens or children groups (outside of Winnipeg area)

We are also looking for keen individuals who are interested in facilitating/organizing social groups for adults, women, teens or children with Asperger Syndrome.

What you will do:

Email contact with members that are interested in attending your group

Facilitate monthly groups in the chosen area
Work with AMI to arrange dates/times of the groups
Report on basic statistics and questions from the group to the board on a monthly basis

If you have:

A strong belief in self help values
A non judgemental and caring attitude
A willingness to work cooperatively with AMI and their guidelines

AMI will provide support in starting and facilitatating the group, booking speakers, and offer assistance in conflict resolution if problems are to arise. Please contact us as info@asperger-manitoba.ca for more information.

Asperger Manitoba Inc. is looking for volunteers with experience and/or interest in the following areas:

Finance (including grant applications, fundraising,
Development of an information package (including brochures and actual information package to be emailed or mailed out)
Social Skills (sitting on the committee that works on the running of the social skills programs for adults, teens and children.
Facilitation of support groups
If you are interested in offering your skills in another way, we would love to speak with you as well!

SpeechWorks Social Communication for Teens

SpeechWorks is excited to announce our upcoming programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This 5-week group for young tweens and teens (aged 11 to 16) focuses on developing social communication skills. It is led by a Speech-Language Pathologist with 16 years’ experience working with children and a special interest in Autism, especially Asperger Syndrome. Learning will be enhanced by the use of role plays, scripts, and visual supports and by the small group size (4 to 6 participants). There will be two groups: one group on Thursdays, from January 12 to February 9, 4:30 to 6:00, and a second group on Saturdays, from January 14 to February 11, from 10:30 to 12:00.
